ALCOHOL ADDICTION

What is Alcohol Addiction?

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a medical condition involving an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health consequences, according to the National Institutes of Health. A national survey found that 14.1 million adults ages 18 and older had AUD in 2019. AUDs can be mild, moderate or severe. There are lasting changes in the brain caused by alcohol overuse that cause individuals vulnerable to relapse. We’re here to help with your alcohol addiction treatment and get you back to an amazing life.

At Wise Path Recovery Centers, we use the DSM-5 to assess whether a person has AUD and to determine the severity if the disorder is present.

In addition to asking you a series of questions regarding your alcohol use, we will also take into consideration the presence of any common risk factors of AUD.

Risk factors of AUD may include:

N

Drinking at an early age

N

Genetics and family history of alcohol problems

N

Co-occurring mental health conditions and a history of trauma
