This type of program is designed to help patients focus on achieving change in behaviors associated with substance use, with minimal medical services provided. Treatment consists of fewer than 9 hours of treatment each week.

FAQs About Outpatient Programs

What is an outpatient day program?

An outpatient day program is a structured treatment option where individuals receive therapy and support during the day but return home in the evenings. These programs often include counseling, group therapy, and skill-building sessions.

What are the types of outpatient treatment?

Outpatient treatment includes partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and standard outpatient therapy. The level of care varies based on the individual’s needs, with PHP being the most intensive and standard outpatient therapy being the least structured.

What is an example of outpatient therapy?

An example of outpatient therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), where a person meets with a therapist weekly to address mental health challenges. Other examples include group therapy, family counseling, and medication management.

Is outpatient treatment effective for addiction recovery?

Outpatient treatment can be highly effective for addiction recovery, especially for those with strong support systems and a stable home environment. Success depends on factors like program quality, personal commitment, and ongoing support.
